An unearthed foreign object, abbreviated U.F.O., was any item of unknown origin or design that had been recovered by the United States government for study. One of the Orbs labeled as a U.F.O. after being discovered in a mine shaft by Chinese laborers.[1]

- In the real world, U.F.O. stands for "unidentified flying object" and is often associated with supposed extraterrestrial spacecraft sightings. The labeling of the Orb as a U.F.O. in "Pilot" is meant to be a pun on this.
